Ilya Mikhayev is skilled fast solid defensively and has all the tools. Was a solid third liner for Toronto. I'd love to keep him however he's buried underneath the Leafs strong RW depth.
Engvall has shown glimpses of being capable of being a strong 2-way power center/winger. Capable of getting you third line production even if he has a hard time hitting the back of the net sometimes.
2. On the Vegas Trade:
I believe that Kerfoot Brooks and Dermott would thrive under Vegas' aggressive system.
Kerfoot did do better in Colorado than in Toronto I believe he could complement their team nicely.
Brooks is a sweetener and a cap manouver to even out salary.
Dermott is Solid. He's still young and is more established than Whitecloud and gives Vegas sone insurance on D incase McNabb walks or Martinez looses a step with his age.
Not saying that Martinez will drop off I'm just saying it's good to have options incase anything happens.
Reilly Smith is a little overpaid at $5 Mil but is a UFA however I feel like he is a player that would help mesh and gel the Leafs Top 6 well as well as can play on the 3rd line if Robertson is ready to Play with Tavares and Nylander.
Leafs need Kerfoot at centre more than need Smith. Whitecloud is one of two RHD for Vegas so I imagine they keep him, but really he isn't much more than 3rd pairing guy, so it seems like a overpay by the Leafs. That is not a good centre situation for the Leafs as proposed.
Smith and Whitecloud are better/more valuable that every piece TOR is offering. Can't see VGK considering that deal.
This is one of those quantity vs. quality deals. Whitecloud is a young-ish cheap RHD who's quickly proven to be good and is far better than Dermott who Vegas really has no room for.
Only from Leafs perspective, I don't think Smith is that much better than Kerfoot to be worth loosing Dermott SDA brooks and Rindell.
That being said, I don't think it is a package that would interest Vegas to move those two players.

A Smith/Kerfoot swap is the only part of this that I could see making sense for Vegas. Vegas needs quality bottom six forwards, but so does TOR.
