The first two lines/d-pairs are set.

The 3rd line/d-pair are the options to see what works best. I think they are throwing FWD with a roster chance together with Fiala to see what work. The 4th line also comes from this group after they figure out Fiala's line.

Benn/Addison are the 3RD competition.

So that 2nd line looks like a 3rd line.
Hoping Rossi can overtake Gaudreau.
It will be interesting to see if Sturm can move up to a 3C possibly moving Hartman back to wing.
Is Greenway in shape this year or did he regres back to his previous lifestyle. Haven't heard about him from Russo so I suspect he didn't do much.

I think the 1st and 2nd lines are just the 3 guys from each group that are NHL FWDs. The rest of them in those groups have no chance at making the NHL roster. I think it'll end up being the 3rd line based on the fact they have the 3rd pair d-men on that group also.

I also think whichever center doesn't end up with Fiala gets swapped groups with Hartman for a comparison look.

I think Gaudreau will get looks at both center and wing with Fiala. Fiala/Sturm/Gaudreau could end up as the line 3.

No clue on Greenway's shape, so I guess we won't know until practices start. We didn't hear much about most of the players this summer, but that is probably a "no news is good news" thing.

That is interesting to see there are pretty much just 3 forwards in groups A and B that have a realistic shot of making the opening night roster so the real competition for forward spots will be in group C between Boldy, Rossi, and Rau. I'd think guys in that group with NHL experience like Rask, Bjugstad, and Sturm are at a minimum healthy scratches on opening night if a guy like Rossi earns a spot in the lineup.

Same situation on defense, but group B instead. I've seen fans say Addison is likely the odd man out on defense because of his contract status but I disagree. Guys like Merrill and Benn end up passing through waivers during training camp every year so one of them getting sent down wouldn't surprise me.
