If Weber really might come back this year, then Montreal doesn't need Schultz. But Schultz outscored Weber by 50% last year, and has shown he can lead a power play, and somewhat play 1RD, in Pittsburgh. Savard has a strong reputation for defense, but Schultz' plus/minus was better than Savard's last year by 39. So Schultz is a big upgrade at a valuable position.
In the last three years, Eller has 27 more even strength points than Dvorak. Eller can kill penalties and play on a checking line well enough to win the Cup. Dvorak is starting to learn those skills. Montreal fans all valued that stuff a lot last year when they were trying to shop Danault.
Eller and Schultz together are an overpay for Toffoli, even with Toffoli coming off a career year as a goal scorer. If Chiarot for Kempny is too much to balance it, what about Edmundson?
