Description
First- Background: Avs can only take on contracts that end this year or next. Great cap space next year and gone with MacKs/BBs raises the year after. Limits prospective targets. Drouin is a great target for this window. Problem is he has been inconsistent over the last two years staying in the lineup and producing (we know, we know. bottom line - results matter in this league). Looking at his contract he is getting over paid. MTL is also going to have their own cap squeeze, and would like someone to help them out. They are under performing and realizing that the rebuild isn't quite over.

The Avs are also under performing. But it hasn't gotten so bad or the air isn't thin enough here to hit the panic button and trade a Top Pair Dman (pick one- Sammy, Toews, BB- sorry not sorry that the Avs have 3 legit LD and 1 RD that could "fit" that roll) for a struggling MIDDLE-SIX winger. The dream is over. GIVE IT UP. JD isn't going to supplant Landy on that first line. The only way the Avs move one of the top 4D is for someone who can. Sorry, no one on your roster fits that bill.

The Avs do have another wealth of depth at C. Seems to be an issue for MTL. Crazy that JT and JD have similar numbers over the last 2 years... Remember, game of results not projections. MTL gets the cap relief, while COL can afford the hit ending next year. Make no mistake this is a rental, they wouldn't extend him. COL takes the Defensive hit cause JT plays a big roll in PK and shut down minutes. Col does get a higher offensive ceiling in JD. Although, JT is out producing him right now, in the present. Bowers is added for this potential better production. From the outside just looking at numbers, not an impressive player. Happens to be injured right now but... again with projections... plays a solid middle six/bottom 9 role. Too much depth to crack the Avs lineup. Maybe has a chance there. Honestly, sad. I like him. He just isn't going to get a shot here. I hope they move him somewhere.

In the end, Avs get m6 winger. MTL gets 3C, B prospect, and 2 mill cap relief.

Best and final offer. And honestly, not sure I'm not going to get roasted by other Avs fans for this.

Lines post-TDL and healthy.

I wouldn't waste any trade capital on Drouin.

Nothing wrong with your idea, but Compher isn't a true center and MTL has way too many RW.

Just not a good fit to MTL needs IMO.

You are right in your description results do matter more than potential, that is the reason a B prospect like Bowers doesn't make up the gap between Drouin and Compher. Look at the PPG totals of the two, Compher sits at 0.42 PPG and Drouin sits at 0.59 PPG. I am not saying that Drouin straight up for one of your D mentioned above is fair value but it is closer than a B prospect and a 3 or 4 C cause lets face it just like Drouin is not supplanting Landy from the 1st line Compher is not supplanting Suzuki or Dvorak from the top 6 either. So at best we trade a top 6 winger for a pair of bottom 6 forwards and that is IF Bowers cracks our lineup which he most likely won't due to depth upfront, especially if Compher is included. Our wings are stacked already so Bowers doesn't play there and with Suzuki, Dvorak, Compher and Evans where does Bowers fit? I would say to swap Bowers with Barron and you got a deal but I am sure Avs fans aren't going to like that either.

Not a great fit for COL. Just tired of the unrealistic Girard Trades. I'll agree to disagree on the C part.
