Description
DJ hinted that they might rock 11-7 to start the season. Probably the best option until they can find some stop gap solution so they aren't running a line of Kelly-Shaw-Sabourin regularly.

why did we bring in sanford only to scratch him in favour of kelly and shaw though lol. not really complaining as long as brannstrom gets to play though, but i'll also say i thought we brought in MDZ to be like a 4/5D, not an 8D (even though objectively he should be a 7/8D)

I mean... Sanford was a complete ghost in pre season. I think he's still adjusting to the new team and systems and he'll pick it up shortly, but right now sitting him if you're rolling 11-7 is probably the move. He had a way worse camp than Kelly, and Shaw looked competent and is a regular C which gives him the edge as well. DJ already confirmed Kelly was playing opening night, so if a forward comes out it's probably Ennis or Sanford, and that should be a really easy choice.

As far as MDZ goes, I didn't get the sense that he was DJ's guy at all. He was absolutely garbage, and if anything I think he just made DJ realize how good Mete really is (praised Mete multiple times as a guy who can break out and defend). He's such a bad fit for what this team needs, it honest to God makes me think the Sens might have had him confused with a different player when they signed him. If DJ is serious when he says the best players will play, there's absolutely no shot MDZ is in the opening lineup. He was the worst player on the ice for Ottawa at all times.

Thank God you don't have Sabourin in the lineup. Seeing him on the opening roster makes me want to burn things.

Seriously, the last 2 off-seasons have been infuriating

We have such amazing drafting/development but yet, we are not even trying to benefit from it lol. I mean, we could start competing for the playoffs while several of them would be on their ELCs. But we just don't have enough Zubs and Connor Browns (solid vets)

Well, Del Zotto and Sanford are the 2 puzzling moves of the off-season this year. Not as outrageously puzzling a Stepan for a 2nd or Balcers on waivers, but still. I seriously have no idea why Dorion makes moves like this, can't find any other rational explanation. The only thing I found is maybe him and the pro scouting staff always get tricked by old tapes of these players from 2-3 years ago...
