Why does LA do this? They inherit an extra year at 5.875M and upgrade the pick in the process.

Brown will not be traded unless he requests it, which is unlikely (his wife is currently employed by the Kings and he will likely join the training staff like Greene and Stoll once he retires). Let's say he does request a trade, I don't see it being in division, especially with Sutter who he locked out of the room and who stripped the C from him.

I think the Kings actually have a decent chance to make the playoffs, so i'm not sure this is realistic to begin with.
