Don't know if makes sense for either time. The win now Canes probably don't want to lose Pesce. And the Sabres give up two in effect for two first rounders for a Pesce who will be a UFA in two years.
Surely the Sabres can makes use of their cap to sign a competent UFA Dman and keep their picks.

Canes pass this in a heartbeat. If the Canes do sell Pesce, it won’t be for table scraps. If Chychrun gets traded for the Yotes asking price, Carolina would be wanting that plus some. Raanta has also been stellar for the Canes as of late, so no need to trade him.

I don’t think the Canes would be willing to move Pesce to Buffalo without at least one of Dahlin or Power coming back.
Anything less gets rejected immediately.

First of all, that isn't table scraps.. Second of all Pesce is a fine player but he isn't as good as Dahlin now and Dahlin is 6 years younger, and Power was the first overall pick last year. This is quite possibly one of the worst counter offers on this site that I have seen in a long long time

You’re right. Pesce isn’t as good as Dahlin. He’s better than Dahlin. Pesce is better and is on a better deal than Dahlin, and he plays the right side. Pesce is better defensively, but isn’t as good as Dahlin offensively. Canes are actually looking to win, so we won’t take futures for Pesce unless it’s time for a rebuild, which it isn’t.

You are asking Carolina to essentially quit on a Stanley Cup run, just so Buffalo can get better. If you want the Canes to quit on a run, you better be paying a big premium. Canes would one of Dahlin or Power to start with, but quitting on a run raises the price higher. So the trade that was proposed doesn’t have nearly enough value for 1) Carolina to consider trading Pesce for and 2) to quit on a Stanley Cup run. Canes are in win now mode, whereas the Sabres are still rebuilding, and will more than likely stay that course for another couple of years. Why should the Canes trade one of their prime pieces for some lackluster futures?

All I said was that the ask of Dahlin or Power is ridiculous. I agree that this trade doesn't make sense for Carolina, you don't give up a really good RHD when you are good for futures, I very much understand that.

You are telling me that Carolina would never trade Pesce and thats fine and likely true unless they were blown away with an offer, but you've gotta understand that Pesce isn't nearly good enough for the Sabres to even think about moving Dahlin or Power. The trade doesn't really make sense for either side at this point.

Lastly, we can't be having this type of Dahlin slander. If you wanna try to make the argument that you'd prefer Pesce for this Cup run, I guess you can try to go there, but over term I can't even listen to that. Dahlin has been an absolute force recently and is really coming into his own under the new coaching staff. He's also still only 21.. Dahlin is out-producing Pesce on a much inferior team and I think that there is something to that. Its much easier to look good on a really good team, which Carolina is, than it is to look good on a really bad team, which Buffalo is.

Don't get me wrong Pesce is great, and the Sabres would obviously love to have him, that does not mean that a trade would work between the teams because I highly doubt that Carolina would be willing to part ways with an excellent player.
