Description
Small Moves Roster. Keep practically the entire team minus a 2 top 9 forwards who get replaced by younger, cheaper, and by next year probably better young guys, and Holl gets replaced internally as well. Anderson gets a full time spot on the checking line which he suits very well. Giordano signs a Jason Spezza type deal. Campbell comes back on a 1 year provide it deal.
Spezza retires and helps out the team in a staff role of some sort

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2022 5th round pick (WSH)
  2. 2023 5th round pick (WSH)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
The return for a 4/5 rental d man for the year who can play 20 mins a night is likely a 2nd coming from any team. Here, the Leafs go for moreso depth picks on top of a 3rd instead of a straight up 2nd
*draft day trade
**if the Capitals make it to the 2nd round of the 2022/23 playoffs and Justin Holl is among the top 4 Capitals defenders in total TOI played in the playoffs, the 2023 5th becomes a 2023 4th
WSH
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
A Good #4/5 RHD who doesn’t provide too much offensively but is a solid puck mover and reliable defensive defenceman who plays 20 minutes a night or so, including PK. Could go to any team, but Washington seems to be a fit as he bolsters Washingtons defensive depth and can give them another tall defender in the blue line who can PK (likely slots in as 3RD but it would be either him or Jensen for 2RD). Leafs move on from Holl because they decide to give a chance to Sandin and Liljegren both, each getting full time roster spots. Rubins becomes the 7D for the Leafs who impressed in a couple games earlier this year
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
  2. 2023 5th round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Leafs also add Joseph Duszak, a talented OFD who is a wild card but has performed extremely well in the AHL and in Carolina’s high fly system he could maybe be a DeAngelo 2.0 (but lower in the depth chart). Duszak can play PP2 for the Hurricanes, and provide another offensive punch if he makes the team which I think he definitely can *Duszak is not the main part of this trade obviously*
CAR
  1. Duszak, Joseph [RFA Rights]
  2. Kase, Ondrej [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Versatile Top 9 Forward who can sign whatever contract Carolina prefers as an RFA. Can play anywheres in the lineup, and can play any situation. A 20 goal guy who works hard, only concern is injury problems which lowers his value a bit but regardless he is a very solid player. Leafs trade him as his asking price for contract is likely out of what they can afford (I’d expect around 2.5ish mil), and his play can be replaced internally by Knies/Robertson

Capitals could just sign Lyubushkin for less $ and not give up any picks. He offers 0 offense and great defense also

Carolina has their own cap issues, and already have 4 RWers with Teravainen, Jarvis, Necas, and Fast. They don't need to give up assets to get Kase. Carolina's blueline is notorious for being jammed with great prospects, it's probably the one place in the league Duszak could be traded and drop down the pecking order from where he is now.

Caps already have RHDs Carlson, Jensen and TvR signed for next season, all of them better than Holl. Caps shouldn't give up picks for a 6th/7th D when they can sign someone for less than 2 mil.

1. Any team works
2. Holl is better than TVR imo. Plus TVR can play left side (or at least according to the website)
3. It’s not easy to get guys who are successful playing 20 mins a night and PK

The difference between them is that 1. Any team could sign Lyubushkin and maybe he gets more than what Holl makes, so this would be a backup if they can’t get him, and (more importantly) 2. Holl can play much larger minutes. Lyubushkin is very solid in his own end, but Holl, while not providing much offensively, is still a better offensive player, and Holl plays on average like 5-6 minutes a night extra. I dont know how Lyubushkin would translate to playing bigger minutes. A few times this year he’s played top pair with Rielly and has had his struggles. Holl on the other hand has consistently played 20 mins a night and top competition
