I still don't know if this is a playoff team, but maybe they sneak in with the way that the western conference is this year. And if they weren't competitive like they are in real life, they would have hd more options to move for a lot more picks.

Easy to say in hind sight.
JVR & Tarasenko have had better than expected years-- big contracts to take on for them to potentially not work out.

Otherwise, largely have the core they built in place. Tanev getting injured goes very under the radar for how important he was. Gourde late start. Goalies have been disappointing, but I heard no complaints @ the time of signings.

If you're comparing to VGK there was no way they were going to be competitive-- but compared to past expansion teams they're right on course, IMO.
Some young guys coming up, old guys getting out of they way-- just have to hit on some draft choices.

Can be competitive to quite good VS the West in 2-3 seasons.

It’s a shame to see people still trying to redo the expansion draft. There is a reason why Seattle and Francis did what they did. They are looking to be as anti Vegas as possible, with cap space and the draft at the forefront. They are going to weaponize their cap space, and weaponize their roster through the draft.

I actually think he approached the expansion draft rather smart. He went with mainly sure value players, that they could distribute for more draft capital. Could it have been better, yes, but hindsight is always 20/20. Francis strong suit is the draft, but he isn’t that strong in trading, so selecting sure value players in the expansion draft helps. And with the next 3 or so drafts looking really strong, Francis will do his level best to acquire more high draft picks.

You mean the Kraken want to be anti-winning? Kraken right now have to be in the worst position in the league. The draft was mind numbingly dumb. Made terrible selections and decided to stay away from side deals. It's not even hindsight. The expansion draft picks were mocked and criticized right after they happened. Right now they are a point away from being last in the standings, and do not have the abundance of assets + cap space other rebuilding teams have. No clue how you think cap space is at the forefront & weaponized when they only have 23M in space. Including the RFAs they have to resign it's gonna be under 20M. The cap is already starting to get bloated with bad contracts like Grubauer too. I can already tell you what's gonna happen in the summer. Francis is gonna make some bad overpay splash signing like Klingberg and use the rest of the cap on some vet forward like Ryan Strome. The team is going to be close to the cap, while still not being good.

It's not even hindsight. They were obvious picks. JVR is on a short term contract and could have been easily flipped this summer if it didn't work out. They instead used the Philly pick on a guy that's not even an NHL level player. You could of went with any of the armchair GMs at the time and the team would've been better.

With how the roster is structured I can assure you they won't be competitive or quite good in 2-3 seasons. Probably gonna be at least 5-6 years with the staff being fired and a new GM overhauling the roster until they're good.
