Description
Capitals add Quick as a veteran presence in net in tandem with Vanecek to stabilize the back-end. Caps replace Schultz on defense with either Alexeyev or Johansen, which ever one is more NHL ready. Forward core is largely the same, but the Caps choose to offload Eller's contract to save some cap space. Caps can't go into 2022-23 with both Vanecek and Samsonov, and choose to trade Samsonov because he has a 1st round draft pedigree.

Caps bank cap space to sign pending UFAs Orlov, Jensen, and Hathaway.

Kings aren't going to trade Quick. He was the better of the Kings' two goaltenders this season and is still considered the starting goaltender for LA. If the Kings make the playoffs, expect to see him between the pipes in the postseason.

I don't disagree, Quick just best fit the "veteran goalie who could possibly be traded" mold that the Caps will go after in the off-season. Could be re-signing Holtby too.

Please no Holtby. People forget, he was incredible in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2018. But other than that, he was quite inconsistent... and he is older now...

I don't disagree about Holtby being inconsistent and on the back half of his career. I do think he would provide a bit more stability on the back-end than what's there now.

For reference:

Holtby: .913 sv%, 3.8 GSAA, .875 5v5 sc sv%, .853 5v5 hd sv%
Samsonov: .897 sv%, -11.5 GSAA, .858 5v5 sc sv%, .795 5v5 hd sv%
Vanecek: .909 sv%, 1.4 GSAA, .879 5v5 sc sv%, .809 5v5 hd sv%

Seems to me, you bank on VV for the future, and then use Holtby as a veteran 1A/1B in that kind of scenario. Doesn't even need to be Holtby, but the Caps need someone to help them win now, and VV and Sammy together aren't carrying the weight.
