TOR
Traded for highest bidder. Not sure what the exact worth is here, but for a guy who plays PK and 20 mins a night and posts solid results, he should fetch a decent return. Based off the market, I’d assume something around what Brett Kulak got at the deadline

    Additional Details:
Buffalo has 3 really good young upcoming goaltenders, and Toronto could use one of them. Buffalo moves on here from the oldest of the bunch

        1. Mrázek, Petr
        Additional Details:
Mrazek needs a fresh start. Injury riddled and has heavily struggled in Toronto.
His contract rn is negative value, but not sure just how negative. Yes, he has struggled heavily this year, but his time in past seasons have been very solid, and a team is likely to gamble at what him returning to form. If not, then he can be bought out after next season for a very low price around 1 mil for 2 seasons. I believe Mrazek is talented enough to rebound elsewhere

        TOR
        BUF
          Contracts Explained:
Kase- 1 year prove it deal again (injuries derailed what was a very solid season. He’ll take another similar deal once again)
Campbell- prove it deal to see if he’s a legit starter or if he’s meant as just a tandem goaltender. He hasn’t done enough to earn himself the big term yet, and this next year decides his contract(s) going forward
Sandin- very talented young d man, but has dealt with injuries and very well could be scratched these playoffs. Takes a 1 year deal for cheap similar to what Dermott took a few years back (and what many other d men similar to his situation took)
Liljegren- another talented young d man. Leafs lock him up long term to avoid potential offersheets and to get him on a contract that could be a steal one day. Big money for this upcoming season, yes, but he’s shown a ton of promise and in my eyes has been our 2nd best d man this year. 110% ready for a top 4 role next year
Engvall- gets some term and money for a great bottom 6 performance this year. Deal takes him to UFA where he can push for a Goodrow-esque deal, but for now he has less leverage considering this is his first legit year.
Giordano- the old man who wanted to come to Toronto. Has made more than enough over his career and has no reason to push for every penny. He could easily get 3+ mil elsewhere, but it’s the consensus that he wants to be in Toronto and (hopefully) will take a Spezza type contract (or else he will price himself out of Toronto)
Rask- very solid bottom 6 centerman. Was a healthy scratch at times and even placed on waivers. Looking to rebound on a team that will give him a full time spot at 4C

Campbell walks if you offer him 1x$3.5M. He's already 30, this is probably his one shot at a big deal that gives him some stability. Someone will offer him 4x$4Mish on a deal and he'll be gone.

And with Mrazek - I am going to keep pounding this drum. He's nearly impossible to trade - he's been very bad, he's over 30, he's injury prone, and his contract is back-loaded so even your normally cap-dump destinations aren't going to want to trade for him because he's making more money in real dollars than his cap hit will be. His buyout cost is only $1.43M/$1.43M/$833K/$1.03M. Give Liljegren a bridge deal here (2x$2M would probably pull it off) and you'll have the room to ice this roster and give Lilly his raise in 2024.

Well do it if you throw in every pick you own for the next 1000 years, as well as Krebs, Tuch, Dahlin, Cozens, Quinn, and Power (all half retained). If you’re willing to do that, we’ll even give you guys Mrazek, Tavares, and Muzzin just to be nice. Sounds fair to me!

No contract is “impossible to dump”. A team will take it, even if the sweetener is high. The backloaded portion definitely doesn’t help, but a team that is both:
          a) bad and looking to take on bad contracts, and
          b) isn’t struggling financially
Could definitely take him on and hope he ups the play. This would basically be the equivalent of Shayne Gostisbehere being dumped (team taking on a bad contract hoping the player can return to his former level of play). Mrazek could be dumped for a similar return to another team or, potentially; have the 1-1.5 retained per year that the buyout would be equal to and save themselves from paying the ~0.9 mil for the 2 years after this contract runs out. Lots of options here, and Dubas will certainly do his research here and take his time.

Campbell hasn’t earned a 4 year deal imo. If a team offers that, he should for sure take it, but I can’t see him getting a 4 year deal based off being 30 and only 2 years as even a tandem goalie/starter.

Signing Lily now long term I think is best because if we bridge him for 2 years now, he very likely asks for well over the 4.25 once it’s over. Spend extra now, yes; but save the money long term. Its a gamble but certainly worth it for the long run imo; this sort of deal has paid off in the past plenty times (ex. Shea Theodore)
