Does Mangipaine make sense? He’s exactly what the islanders need, a goal scorer, and with the Flames current cap issues this off season someone has to go. Could we see a trade for him? Some draft picks and maybe get rid of roster players for even more draft picks to trade for him. Varlamov and Bailey could be moved for draft picks in order to trade for Mangipaine

Obviously he makes sense for the islanders, as he is an incredible young player that plays the exact style of two-way hockey that Trotz loves. Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to get him. If the flames let Gaudreau walk, they should be able to easily sign Mangiapane, but if they keep Johnny Hockey, Mangiapane will definitely be a player to monitor in trades. Isles would probably have to free up cap room before trading for him, whether it’s trading Varly or Bailey, and probably have to give up Raty/Wahlstrom, a 1st, and probably a bit more to get him. Definitely something to monitor

It would definitely cost a lot to get him. Considering what the Flames need right now/if he left, Whalstrom would likely be going the other way (goal scorer on cheap contract)

the fact that he's basically been a 20% shooter the last 2 seasons is what makes me nervous - I'd be afraid of him regressing to a (still good!) 13-14% and those 35 goals turn into 20-25, and now we're stuck with another $6M second liner.

This is like when people said Sergachev and Cirelli would be available last year. Calgary can easily make the cap space by moving one of Monahan or Lucic and that is likely not hard at all
