Description
Trades are pretty simple.

Arizona tried to get the Weber contract at the TDL as it provides them with a bunch of cap with no salary attached to it. The arena situation will make it even harder to attract free agents. The habs bundle that with Hoffman to lower the price. Armia could be there instead of hoffman.

Edmonton needs a goalie next year and need him to be dirt cheap. If they want to go with Skinner the habs would be able to take back Smith which would save 700kish for a more reliable option. They dont have the space to sign a 3-4 million dollar goalie.

Whether Petry gets traded or not I think boils down to the draft (especially Columbus) if they dont get one of Nemec or Jiricek I could see them making a move for Petry as there is not much in the prospect pool with top 4 upside for them in the near future. But with the picks they have they probably get one of them. If they make a trade its would likely be bemstrom +pick for Petry.

Beyond that I dont expect much beyond housekeeping signings. Maybe they eat a cap hit for a year if they trade petry and have some extra space. It will be another rebuilding year with some more young guys likely coming in the lineup in the 2nd half. If Price is done they may try and find another young goali to try as well.

Trading a goalie with worse SV% and getting a 1st back is not realistic

Allen is a decade younger

Has not had the same injury problems the last 2 years

Is a full roster player worth of cap space cheaper

Is not on a 35+ contract.

And its not a 1st its a 1st with a 2nd going back.

Smith isn't a 35+ contract either because of how its structured he can be sent down and bought out just like regular contract.

Going from 2nd to 1st is way more value then anything you listed especially when the decade older goalie has been the better goalie for the last 2 seasons even when battling injuries.

You cant make saves if you are injured. Smith hasnt dressed for half of the last few years. He isnt a reliable option.

Its a 2nd to move from late 2nd to late 1st.

That Hoffman contract kills any value going to Arizona for Weber. There are other LTIR contracts around that Arizona would take to help the cap floor if necessary.
