Description
Just for fun. New here. Feel free to roast.
Leaving the draft with Cooley, Slafkovsky, and Gauthier. Trying to make the roster bad, but serviceable for the next year or two while taking on bad cap for assets. Kept many young guys in Tucson away from this mess. Hopefully Tucson can make some noise.
Yes, I know a team probably isn't going to make eight trades in an offseason.
Took the team right to the cap without LTIR to maximize accrued cap space when season starts and those guys land on LTIR. Gives flexibility to become a cap clearing house at the deadline for more assets.

  1. Zaitsev, Nikita
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (OTT)
  3. 2022 4th round pick (OTT)
OTT
    Pretty straight forward.
    2.
    CAR
    1. 2022 6th round pick (ARI)
    Additional Details:
Bokk seems to be done in Carolina, but was an Armstrong pick in St. Louis. Taking on Gardiner and giving up a late pick and giving Book an opportunity.
    3.
    PHI
    1. 2023 5th round pick (ARI)
    Additional Details:
Could be a pick instead, but I love the way Wisdom plays.
    4.
    ARI
    1. Groshev, Maxim [Reserve List]
    2. Seabrook, Brent
    3. 2024 2nd round pick (TBL)
    TBL
    1. Carcone, Michael
    Additional Details:
Taking Sea room's LTIR contract for a second in 2024 and a raw prospect like Groshev. Carcone is cheap organizational depth and evens out the contract slot.
    5.
    ARI
    1. Zacha, Pavel [RFA Rights]
    2. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
    3. 2022 4th round pick (NJD)
    NJD
    1. Chychrun, Jakob
    2. 2022 2nd round pick (NYI)
    Additional Details:
New Jersey get Chychrun and a second. Arizona gets Cooley, Zacha, and a fourth. Is this crazy? Not sure. LA seems like a more likely destination and has the right pieces, but it's that time of year as the draft rolls around. Fitz suggested the pick could be moved for immediate help. Devils are deep at C, and Chych is a good defenseman with a great contract.
    6.
    ARI
    1. Foudy, Liam [RFA Rights]
    2. 2022 1st round pick (CHI)
    CBJ
    1. Schmaltz, Nick
    2. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
    3. 2022 3rd round pick (ARI)
    Additional Details:
Schmaltz is at his best as a winger, imo, but he continues to get used at center and is comfortable there. 59 points in 63 games this year for the league's worst offense. Columbus gets Laine a center by trading back later in the first round (either Carolina's or Colorado's first depending on where they end up).
Arizona only does this if they are high on someone at 6. I think Gauthier checks those boxes for Armstrong.
Columbus only does this if they don't love who is available at six and prefer immediate help knowing they pick again at 12.
This could also work with #12 if AZ's target is still there at 12. I think 5-20 is going to be wide open with teams picking all over the board.

Arizona roster gets worse, but get Cutter Gauthier (imo) and Foudy for Schmaltz, a late first, and their early third. Columbus gets immediate help and still has two firsts.
    7.
    DAL
    1. 2022 4th round pick (OTT)
    Additional Details:
I've seen variations of this a few times. Faksa is an anchor, but Gurianov is an intriguing roll of the dice for AZ, imo. Faksa can fill in the bottom six like they used Beagle and Eriksson. Keeps some of the younger centers in Tucson away from the mess.
    8.
    CGY
Is Monahan healthy and can he regain form? Can Calgary afford to hold his contract to find out? I am not sure where his value lies. I assume it's negative at +$6M, but perhaps not too much so. I just selected Valimaki because he seems like he's easily expendable and running out of waiver exemption, and I had an extra roster spot for D. Could just as easily be a pick. Best case scenario is Monahan resumes form, gives veteran depth, and can be flipped with retention at the deadline as a rental.

      100%.
Devils are better off drafting any of Cooley, Nemec, Slaf or Jiricek at #2.

I can see an argument for Cooley and even Slafkovsky. It's odd to me that anyone would prefer one of the top D prospects who are several years out to a 24 yr old top pair dman with a great contract. Also doesn't seem to square with Fitzgerald's comments about their timeline.
But I'm not a Devil's fan, so clearly perceptions vary.

Welcome to CapFriendly. Just beware, the “Friendly” part in the name isn’t always true. Joking aside, the Canes would accept that in a heartbeat if they are forced to get Gardiner out.

For a first timer, this is actually pretty decent. IMO some things can worked be worked around, but as a Yotes fan, I would say this would be a really successful off season.

Are you trying to tell me there are places on the internet where people are unkind? This is a worrisome new development smile

And thanks. I tried not to be too greedy, but still set up the team moving forward. I've read several pretend GM posts in the last week, so I'm aware not everyone will love all the ideas. Also aware that I'm just another idiot on the internet with a hottake.
