    Avs decline.

The issue with moving Girard for cap reasons like you say is that he’s a 24 year old defenseman playing 21+ minutes a night and making $5M for the next 5 years. The Avs could move him for cap space, but then they have to go find an UFA to play in the top 4 which will cost a minimum of $4M for someone that may very well be older and worse.

Also, you’re acquiring Girard and putting him right onto your 1st pair and PP1. If you’re going to acquire a 1st pairing defenseman, you can’t make your top prospects off limits.

Also these prospects aren’t really prospects anymore. McIsaac is only 2 years younger than Girard and has 340 fewer games. Veleno is 22 and can’t seem to stick in the NHL. When he has, he hasn’t been super productive. And Rasmussen is fine as a 4th line guy, but that cannot be the best part of a return in a Sam Girard trade.

Girard with his contract is going to be tough to get off of Colorado and that's not a attractive package. Sure for the Pitts deal

I agree with everybody else here. Yes to the PIT deal, no to the COL one.

Detroit don't really need to gun for a true top pair LD when we have a whole bunch of really good prospects coming in the next couple of years. Get one of Schmidt/Martinez/Scandella as a stopgap to tie us over for one or two years, they're all dirt cheap right now due to cap issues.
