Pesce and UFAs

Why would CAR do this? How do two late first rounders help them when they're in the prime of their contender window with nobody to replace somebody like Pesce?

No shot the Canes do this.

What would CAR want for Pesce, assuming that they are willing to listen to offers.

That junk pile won’t get Pesce. 16OA, 28OA, and Mittelstadt is of no help to the Canes now, but also subtracts more than actually adds. Canes have no need for any more Centers. Canes are contenders, not retooling or rebuilding. Canes won’t consider the thought of trading Pesce until Heimosalmi is comfortable at the NHL.

I can't see why they would be though? If they traded him, they'd need to replace him, which, to get a player even close to his caliber would be far more expensive. They were 1 game from the conference finals playing their 3rd string goalie-they'll be fine.
