Description
Cassidy was not the one who made the back-to-back-to-back 2015 1st round picks, or traded draft picks for Lee Stempniak and John Michael Lyles.
He was not the one who signed Matt Beleskey, or traded a 3rd rd pick for Zac Rinaldo.
Cassidy didn't sign David Backes.
Bruce didn't draft Trent Frederic in the 1st round.
He didn't trade Ryan Lindgren and a 1st for Rick Nash.
Cassidy didn't trade Danton Heinen for Nick Ritchie, or a 1st round pick and Axel Andersson for Ondrej Kase and to unload Backes' contract.
He didn't spend last off-season's money on Nick Foligno, Erik Haula, Tomas Nosek, and Linus Ullmark to replace Krejci and Rask.
Cassidy didn't trade Dan Vladar for a 3rd, rather than keep him and Swayman as a tandem.
Bruce didn't get fleeced by Anaheim for Hampus Lindholm just to lose in the 1st round.
The wrong guy was fired. Cassidy shouldn't have any issues finding a new job. I have to imagine Bergeron is going to retire now. It's clear they're going in a new direction.

A lot of your issues here are valid….except for the lindholm one. Very happy with that trade.

I like Lindholm. He fits well on the team. But they were pretty much destined to lose in the 1st rd no matter what. They should have waited to sign him in the off-season. It's important to remember Sweeney paid an extra 2nd to get Lindholm with retention so he could add scoring depth at the deadline. He didn't add more and got beat by CAR. Then NYR, who did add scoring depth, beat CAR in the next round.

Destined to lose? What are you talking about. They played a kind of weird series against a very good team and lost by one goal in game 7. Thats a ludicrously bad take.

As is, “just sign him in the off-season.” You mean when every team can bid for him, up his price, and risk losing out on the player? They got 9 years of a very high end number 2 d man at a reasonable number. Good move.

The Kase/Backes trade was a good trade and Vladar for a 3rd is fine. Going with two rookies in a year you want to win is risky. Sweeney and Neely should both go, not just the GM. Also, they don't really seem interested by a rebuild so I'm not sure which direction they're heading into (if there's one).

I think they needed the picks more than Lindholm at the deadline. UFA would drive up the price, but I don't see how he would have signed for anything more than $7M or $7.5M. $500k or $1M isn't worth those picks, and the final 3 years are likely going to look pretty bad once he declines.
