Description
Let's try something different to fill the holes we know the Islanders have. Nothing sexy at all with these deals - nothing at all, lemme tell you.

TRADES
-St. Louis fans want Marco Scandella gone. He's an LD with experience and can't be worse than the Chara/Greene monster we rolled out at LD2 so many nights this year, right? His possession numbers are terrible the last couple years but he still had positive GF/GA numbers when paired with good D like Parayko, Faulk, or Dunn. St. Louis throws in a mid-round pick for doing them the favor of taking him off their hands.

-Seattle has said they're into moves for veterans. Reunite Bails with Ebs and get another mid-round pick in the process - Seattle might not be a floor team, but I think everyone can appreciate only paying $7M in salary for $10M in cap hit over the next 2 seasons.

-Wanted to try something different here. The Devils are about an extra hour west of UBS arena so I can't imagine Varly having them on his NTC - and they need a goalie. The Islanders replace Bailey's middle 6 with the younger, cheaper Tatar and get a guy who had sneakily strong possession numbers up and down the Devils lineup. Jersey throws in a 2nd next year to clear Tatar off their books *and* get a serious upgrade in goal.

Didn't go crazy with signings - the only real hole left is backup goalie, and I think Scott Wedgewood would be a bargain at 2x$1.75M. Anyone that can put up decent numbers in Arizona this year has some potential to unlock, I feel.

I still think that with a new coach and a full summer of rest, this team will be able to come back refreshed and return to contention next year without having to sell the farm for a Fiala or DeBrincat this summer. But, if you need an extra spark, you've still got $3M+ and have restocked some extra mid-round picks for trade deadline ammo.

A 4th rd pick is not enough incentive to take back Scandella. His GF numbers are above average (like most blues defenseman) because the Blues have a lot of elite finishers. He’s pretty much a pylon at this point in his career

All deals seem pretty fair, feel like you could get more for Var but otherwise I think the Isle would still be competitive

Still think he's an upgrade over Chara/Greene - know that's not saying much, but I think even this minor upgrade (plus a summer off & a new coach) will be enough to get this team to start stronger this year. if you want to upgrade it to a 3rd, I think the Blues still consider - and I also think that with the amount of cap left + replenishing some picks, if Scandella somehow winds up worse than Chara/Greene you'll still have the ability to upgrade at the deadline.

Not an Islanders fan, but I don't really see how this team is a ton better next season. Everybody is a year older and you haven't really improved the team. D core has some great guys but definitely a few question marks. I think it's fair to ask where the offence comes from as well. You are counting on big bouncebacks from a few guys and that might work?

You think they can get more for Varlamov? His salary is pretty high and he didn't have a great season last year. Not every team can fit him under their cap, so the market is kind of limited.
