I don't want to do this and I doubt the Flames do either, but if JG leaves, CGY is in a spot where they wouldn't have too many long-term contracts to tie them down and could do a pretty quick turnover of the squad. Take 22-23 to refresh the team, perhaps begin getting good again in 23-24.

You can get so much more than a 3rd to take on JVR's contract by itself. Adding JG makes it worth a mid 1st imo.
