Description
Another idea. COL might trade him so they can re-sign Manson and give Byram top 4 minutes. Would be interesting trading within the division.

First off, nice job trading G for the guy that ended his season; bravo. My guess is that, while Bednar doesn't necessarily like playing D on their off-side, he'd do it with Girard because he did well with it last season. So that would make the Avs top 4:

Toews-Makar
Byram-Girard

If EJ doesn't retire, they can find a cheap LD to step in to pair with him. To me, that's a plausible scenario. I also don't think the Avs trade Girard to a division rival.

Also, two possibilities with Barbashev. (1) this year was an outlier and the Avs lose the trade, and (2) he builds on what he did and the Avs can't afford to re-sign him. I don't think this works for Colorado.

Both teams pass. The Blues are NOT handing Barby to the Avs.

I'm not sure they'd be 'handing' anyone anything but I agree both teams pass, especially within the division.

What I mean is they are not going to want to face Barby playing for a rival. Trading him there is akin to handing them a weapon.
