how does this fix goaltending? Why would you trade for a 6 million dollar goalie who hasnt been a starter by any metric for 3+ years and give up a bunch of good futures when you can just sign campbell for less?

Holl and the third get you one year of Anthony Stolarz, so you're evaluating 5 years of John Gibson as one first-round draft pick more.

He is a cap casualty, though. The only reason Toronto would trade him is to have cap space to do other things, and interested teams know this. He's also on an expiring contract, so it's certainly possible that the market for him is softer than Toronto might hope . . . probably even in places like Seattle, if you can believe that!
