You realize half retention on JVR is worth a pretty decent return… Allen isn’t a decent return

And this AGM is the manifestation of why the Habs are spinning wheels.

Trade deadline 2022: deals suggest they are going into a hard rebuild. Deals are excellent additions for the Habs. Hughes was masterful.

Week before Draft 2022: trades for Dadanov. Habs are knee deep on the wing, and moves an asset to get another. Questions about direction swirl. Is this a deal made to make another bigger deal?

Draft Day 2022:

1. Hughes shocks everyone in selecting Slafkovsky..... leaving Wright and Cooley on the board, which would have addressed an organizational need. Time will tell if he took the best player available.

2. Moves Romanov - who was 100% top 4 D material for the 13th overall...... drafting a forward. Return is good, but Romanov and Harrid on the left side is something you build around.

3. Moves a 1st + for Kirby Dach. Fills an organizational need yes. Price paid for a young C that has yet to crack a 40 point campaign (noting injuries have not been kind. (Editors note: I see this flipping around turning into Sergachev for Drouin 2.0)

4. No other deals made moving any of Gallagher, Anderson (who I keep btw), Drouin (pending UFA) or Petry (rumours only) with honourable mention to Byron and Armia.

In a nutshell folks, this organization cannot make up its mind if it's a rebuild or retool, and this AGM proves the point.

Sitting on the fence means years of mediocrity. A trip to a Cup Final was fun sure, but simply put, this team was never that good. They caught lightening in a bottle and ran. But the Habs are no better or worse. Completely static.

Time to make a choice.

I don't mind JVR for Allen as a base... but if JVR is 50% retained I think that 3rd would have to go Philly's way
