Well, he could have the same salary as Bastian in the end, Zetts is an upgrade on him. Plus, this is not even what the start of the season would be as Bernier is for sure not starting the year and Wood may not either.

I'm with you and similarly-minded Devils guys like @NHLfan10506 -- it's not inconceivable that New Jersey will be a dark-horse contender for a playoff slot this season, so why would the Devils be sellers in general or trading Severson in particular?

I honestly believe we will be sellers though, this is to show we aren't in cap trouble of needing to sell anyone. We may be closer than those that really don't believe in them, but I do not think we are in the picture so much so we aren't a seller. We may be out by 5-6pts and still sell Severson, Graves, Haula, and Wood for the kind of assets of futures that we can add fuel to lengthen their window. Luke Hughes and Nemec will replace Graves and Severson next year....AJ, Tatar, and Wood are all easy to replace.
