Well, first of all there is a HUGE drop from Sharangovich to Boqvist, but beyond that, SJS is going to be looking for a young player like Sharangovich AND a 2023 1st at the very least. I get them asking for guys like Holtz too, but in the end I would really need to see how many teams fit the center of a Venn diagram of A) Having assets to trade B) Willingness to trade now to win soon/now C) Cap room. Meier having the $10m QO is looked over by many, but it does mean Meier controls a lot of this on where he chooses to extend as he could choose to take the QO and become a UFA.

To the other point about Vlasic, I wouldn't touch that buy out with anything remotely big going to SJS, but at the same time I don't know why SJS would just try to dump him by eliminating value of a player as SJS is going to be bad for a while. They might as well max out on assets as they rebuild.

Dumping Vlasic at the cost of Meier opens a lot of cap space and San Jose could shoot for a combo of a few of the upcoming UFA's like Pastrnak, Tarasenko, Bertuzzi, Patches, Weegar, Severson, etc to try to make another run. 2-3 of those players (plus Eklund and other prospects developing further) could likely compensate for the loss of Meier.

To counter my own argument, though, New Jersey could just wait and target the same UFA's instead of taking on the Vlasic dead cap. Guess it depends on if NJ sees any extra value in the Swiss-Swiss connection of Meier-Hischier, which is mostly what I was shooting for here..

No, San Jose isn’t moving their best player just to get rid of Vlasic. If he’s moved by himself he’s getting a 1st and a top prospect to start. Vlasic can be bought out.

To start, take out Vlasic…then get Meier to extend, then you can add a pick
