Description
I would say everyone else in the Pacific Division has a shot at the playoffs. However, the Sharks are the only team that don’t have a shot at the playoffs. With the direction that Grier is going towards, I think the Sharks will miss out on the playoffs. Trading for Kunin does add some depth for the long run, and I think the rebuild will be centered around Eklund. The Sharks could count on either Merkley or Vlasic to replace Burns, and a full season of Eklund and Bordeleau will be interesting to watch. Goaltending they just traded Hill, and are rolling with Kahkonen and Reimer. I don’t see Reimer being part of the future, I think sooner rather than later we will see Makiniemi develop into the future starter that the Sharks project him to be. If anything in this year’s draft the Sharks should draft a goalie, there are some goalies that have potential to be drafted inside the top 15. Overall, I think this is the start of a rebuild for the Sharks. They won’t be the worst team in the NHL by any means, with Eklund, Meier, Karlsson, and Hertl, I see them getting around the 60-70 point mark.

For the young prospects, the Sharks should play Eklund and Bordeleau for a full season. Merkley should be given a full-time role in San Jose's top 4 with Burns gone. I don't watch the Sharks often, so I don't know about any other young prospects. If there are some please let me know.

from the desc: Makiniemi could be good but I see Strauss Mann having a better chance at being the future starter. Behind Eklund and Bordeleau I like Coe. Fits Grier's style as he is a big, physical, two-way forward.

I think having Eklund over Meier is foolish as Eklund likely isn't ready for top line minutes and Meier was really good last season and if we want to trade him we should give him as much playing time as possible to boost his value
Nieto isn't good enough for the 3rd line and I see him as being a scratch. Switch him with Lindblom. Also I don't see anyway that Bonino is out of the lineup. 4c if Bordeleau is in the AHL and 4LW if he is.
I also don't think Merkley plays and if he does maybe 3rd pair with sheltered minutes and pp2. Why would he be on the left side with Vlasic on the right? I think Benning plays too.
With these guys I'd run:
Meier-Hertl-Barabanov
Eklund-Couture-Labanc
Lindblom-Bordeleau-Gregor
Bonino-Sturm-Kunin
Simek-Karlsson
Ferraro-Merkley
Vlasic-Benning
Kahkonen
Reimer
Lorentz

Yeah, I agree that VAN, ANA, and SEA all improved this offseason, but the Pacific division will be a crapshoot until we see the first dozen or so games. Not convinced SJ will bomb. Don't get me wrong though I wish they would.

Forward depth was a major issue for this team last season. It's much improved. No idea how the Pacific ends up though. I don't want them to do well, I want another quality pick.
