Lundkvist wants out! Toronto doesn't have the cap for Sandin! Everyone is upset!

Why not trade headaches? Toronto sends out a player that they can't afford and gets back a waivers-exempt RHD/future trade chip in Lundkvist; the Rangers get an upgrade over Zac Jones at LD3 and potentially put themselves in a position where they can cash in more of their D depth for forward depth.

I don't think the trade is a strict one-for-one, though, so I leave it to you: who adds what to get this done?

Two players selected back-to-back in the same draft. Sandin has larger cap. Lundqvist fills a need in Toronto at a lower cap. Until he signs, and 1 x 1.5 seems like it would be done already, all NYR are getting is signing rights. I wouldn't add anything.

It's hard to say, because it feels like almost no sports media covers the Leafs and it's easy to miss things, but wasn't part of Sandin not signing already similar to Lundkvist's deal in that he wanted a stronger path to ice time? In Toronto, he's behind Rielly/Muzzin/Gio and for various reasons wouldn't be displacing them without an injury popping up. If he's traded to the Rangers, he's basically slid right into LD3 behind Lindgren and Miller, so I think he'd be more open to signing (if PT truly is part of the reason he's still unsigned).
