Considering he is only out until the the all star break, the Canes also need cap space. And assuming the rumors that Gardiner failed his physical are true, it doesn’t matter what team he is on if he isn’t able to play. Adding onto that though, if Gardiner truly did fail his physical, Canes could just keep him on LTIR.

That being said, if a third team were willing to retain even 2mil on Hornqvist, I would take that trade.
