Sources are saying if Kane wants to be dealt to a playoff team that him and Toews would be a package deal and they would retain 1/2 if both salaries for a good return. MAYBE.. they get 1st + 2nd and a good prospect ?
Alright lets break this down with some examples because to me it seems you don't really have a strong sense of player value or the cost of retention at all. These players are not depth pieces, in fact you have them all playing 1st line, 1st pair, or starting goalie on your above team.
Starting with Kane, we literally just had Giroux traded last year. He returned a 1st, a young promising propect, and a 3rd. While Giroux is an excellent player, Kane is still a lot better. I would say he alone returns a 1st, one of Rosen/Savoie/Ostlund, and a 2nd.
Toews' value is a little up in the air right now but with retention and his pedigree it probably ranges from somewhere between a 1st + B level prospect to a couple 2nds in value. a good example of this could be like Paul Stastny to Winnipeg.
Now for Klingberg. We just had a bunch of rental defensemen traded last deadline. Even Ben Chiarot returned a 1st and he's realistically a good #4/5. Klingberg is a proven playoff performer and we really aren't that far removed from when he put up 21 points in the a single postseason run.
And lastly there is Quick. Despite his age he is a starting goaltender, and a pretty decent one at that too. 3 games this year is not going to erase how well he did last year, especially with his playoff performance vs the Oilers. Last year Fleury returned a 2nd that could potentially upgrade to a 1st. I can't see any situation where Quick would return less than that
