The only way the Canes consider making a move for Ullmark at all is if Freddie and Raanta both refuse to resign, and there are no other available goalies on the market. And even then, that is still rich for Ullmark.
As for a trade comparable for Ullmark, you are definitely using Kuemper and the Avs situation as a comparable. While that is a decent comparable, that is a bit rich for Ullmark. So the Kuemper comparable is a little high, but on the low side of comparable goalies would be MAF. Find the middle ground between those 2 trades and that would be a decent value trade. So a conditional second and a B prospect should get it done, especially since this would also be a cap move for Boston.
For the Canes, if the condition that Freddie and Raanta don’t want to resign ends up becoming true and there are no other starter options available, how about a conditional 2nd (Canes win the cup, and Ullmark plays in at least 75% of those playoff games, pick gets upgraded to a first) and Suzuki for Ullmark? That should be more of a fair valuation, assuming that the Canes become desperate for a starter, and this also becomes a cap move for Boston, the desperation and cap move should cancel each other out. And with Ullmark’s numbers not going to stay as high as they are by seasons end, this should be a more clear valuation of Ullmark’s value. Now if Ullmark’s numbers were to stay as high as they are for the remainder of the season or even improve, the proposed trade is a bit more fair.
