Pens are in a win now mode. It's not about the long-term value, it's about how they can improve the team for the next two, maybe three years. Down the road their long-term contracts will hurt them and they know it. It's a win-win situation.

I think you're underestimating the Edmundson-Petry pair (Petry is lost and the Pens need to secure their investment) and the intangibles Gallagher can bring
