Description
I think that this Minny team is too good to miss the playoffs and with some cap space to use and a strong AHL group and prospect pipeline making picks expendable, they should add depth ASAP to get back into the mix. They can go one-stop shopping in Boston, where cap space is limited and very capable players are not in the lineup.

Lol I don't think Minnesota wants Boston's scraps. Considering Reilly was on waivers a 2nd and a 4th for Smith is too much.

Well, that’s insane. Maybe flip the picks?

MN's prospect pool and AHL team are not 1 and the same. The prospect pool is good, the AHL team is a tirefire. The too many of the quality prospects are in other leagues not the AHL.

MN needs help at the top of the lineup, not the bottom. So the $6.1m (Reilly + Smith) in cap would be much better spent on a top-6 FWD (preferably a center).

I don't think this is the best use of the Wild's cap space, but if it's the avenue you wanna go down I'm pretty sure you can get both of these guys for a 3rd if you're eating the whole contract. Reilly can't be given a ton of value considering he's been unclaimed through waivers twice at the full cap hit, and Smith is probably worth a 3rd/4th at this rate of play.

But I agree with the idea that the cap space is probably better spent trying to grab a solid top-6 player, not adding more depth to a team that has pretty good depth already.
