The pessimistic assumptions for a boring deadline:

Vrana remains in GR this year

Bert doesn’t get traded

Assuming Bert will sign another 1-2 year contract to bet on himself - he’s been so injured this year that he won’t get the bag he wanted in free agency and he knows it.

Otherwise, I’m disheartened to think that he will get the AA treatment - max two seconds. Thirty goal scorer who was injured and inconsistent the year we want to trade him as a free agent :/.

If Määttä doesn’t get a second I don’t think Steve moves him. He’s a revelation for Hronek and hopefully we see them paired again soon.

The retention on Maatta allows them to add a rock solid defenseman who can eat top4 minutes if needed (was fantastic with Hronek to start the year) and still have almost 2m in cap to supplement the roster further.

This is fine with me. I don't want to see Bert traded and all the other tradable pieces aren't that valuable.

I feel like that Erne trade should be Sundqvist instead. Otherwise, meh. I effectively expect the same.

I suppose we have the third retention spot but to me Erne is statistically a better forechecked/defender and has a better contract. Easier to move.

For a guy who shuffles the lines constantly lalonde seems entrenched in his defensive pairings. Maatta has been steady but I'd be surprised if he got more than a 3rd. I'm ok if Bert wants a short term show me deal I just don't know if he would sign that here or look for a more beneficial spot to boost his numbers to cash in.
