Description
EDM doesn't have the assets to deal Broberg, nor is a 32 year old declining asset worth trading a kid with top-4 potential and cost-certainty for several years.
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Karlsson, Erik ($5,750,000 retained)
SJS
  1. Barrie, Tyson
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Yes, Karlsson is producing this year. He is however still a mess in his own end, as is Barrie. He's also 32 with an ankle that's on borrowed time. As he ages, his value will decrease.

This trade gives SJ a poor man's Karlsson who they can keep under a very reasonable contract, or trade for assets, along with a potential top-6 winger if he ever figures out the mental side. The 1st round pick is for the cap retention, however taking on 4 years of Karlsson means that EDM doesn't trade a 2023 1st round pick, as this year's draft is deeper than next year's.
2.
EDM
  1. Motte, Tyler
Additional Details:
Realizing the mistake they made with their choice in the summer...
OTT
  1. Janmark, Mattias
  2. 2024 4th round pick (EDM)
3.
EDM
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
Additional Details:
Bjugstad has his career back on track, and if you've seen Ryan play this year, the size difference here does matter, as does the age difference.
ARI
  1. Ryan, Derek
  2. 2023 6th round pick (EDM)

this is why he’ll never get traded, the 5.75mil in dead cap is valuable all on its own and this package isn’t enough to motivate SJ to do it

Is he worth it? That’s a joke right? Getting the Norris leading Dman at less than $6 mil aav for an upgrade on D, a depth forward and what would likely be a late 1st plus not giving up a single prospect is a steal. San Jose won’t do it with all that retention and nothing great coming back

This would be fair if there was no retention in karlsson

I mean, that much retention essentially turns Barrie into a $10+ mil dman for the next 2 years (and then $5.75 mil in dead cap through 2027), and all the Sharks get out of it is what *should* be a late 1st and a winger that is starting to look like a non-tender candidate.

I don't know what a Karlsson trade looks like, but if this is it, I just wouldn't bother. If the ankle goes in a few years, you bury him on LTIR. I absolutely see him as someone who's going to decline rapidly, but who knows.

laugh laugh This is a joke right? There's no way in hell like i've posted on other threads. Of Mike Grier eating nearly $29,000,000 in salary cap for the next 5 years. Especially not for that. Barrie has little to no value for the Sharks and Puljujarvi's value is declining like Zadina's and a late 1st Mike Grier would laugh at that and block Ken Hollands number.
