Description

First off let me say we should offer him a new deal starting for 24-25 at 15m x 8 years. That would make him the highest paid player in the league at a time when the cap should be up considerably.

However, if he shows no willingness to sign such an extension to make him a life long Leaf, then we have the situation we all are wishing to avoid. No one wants to trade a guy who clearly one of the top 3 or so players in hockey. These are the kind of trades that rarely occur. However, these are a few hypothetical deals to get Auston back to the states should he want to go that route.

I’m also assuming Muzzin heads down the path of no return with this injury. If he is available next season then we’d have to dump him.

That is a really terrible offer for Matthews. 2 older players and 2 very late 1sts?

Also, Vegas cant afford it.

Karlsson is trash, And isn't living up to his contract.

Don't see Vegas trading Shea Theodore anytime soon.

And Vegas can't afford Auston Matthews @ 8 years and around $14,000,000 to $15,000,000 per AAV,

Now, I'm going on record in saying that Matthews will not resign with the Leafs. Not that it's the Leafs fault, but check the definition of UFREEAgent.
Leafs will be a good team next season. They have a choice of going all in with their UFAs...Matthews, Nylander and Brodie, or not comp[eting but getting futures and cap for 2024/25.

Personally, I would like to get futures and free cap instead of Karlsson and Theodore. If Matthews is traded, I could see at the TDL in February 2024. A retained cap is probably affordable by his new team, and the Leafs wouldn't have to take back much cap...maybe just for one season. Then the new team can offer him an eight year contract. I think it's Los Angeles. Kopitar 10m comes off the books in 2024.

I find it hilarious that MacKinnon signed for less than 13 but Matthews will for sure go for over 14 why? Because it's the Leafs and it's the rules. Matthews will sign for 13.5 x 8 or less term. 15 a season means one of Nylander or Marner is out, and Matthews won't want to stay and see that happen. This nonsense that he's definitely going to leave is just ridiculous.b
