Name the last time a GM traded assets to get back a player they let walk to free agency

I agree using assets to get a player back after losing them free agency seems crazy. I think the Perron deal was done for the cap. Det get tank who we could lose at the end of the year for nothing. So why not get some value for him. Going to det would give tank a fresh start and could be a great landing spot for him if the can reach an agreement to and extension before he hits the market to potentially have a higher price tag.

February the 21st 2012 when Ken Holland paid a 1st (who turned into Vasilevskiy) to get Kyle Quincey back?

Detroit declines, we have no use for the players offered.

Why are you wildly overpaying for Schenn? Bortz fills his role quite well and is still signed next season.
