Description
“The Canucks are one of the teams that have shown interest in Jake Livingstone and the Canucks are one of the teams that — I don’t want to call it a shortlist because I think there’s a lot of teams… From what I’ve heard, almost every single team is in on Jake Livingstone." The opportunity to play for your hometown team is definitely and intriguing one, and Livingstone is a guy that can step in right away. - Faber

"Last year, the Canucks signed European free agent defenceman Filip Johansson, and according to Jeff Marek on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the Canucks have shown interest in 21-year-old Valtteri Pulli." - Faber

The plan for the deadline and the off-season is to acquire cap space and good young players. The two paths of improving the team from there are through free agency and the draft. I want to see the Canucks take more runs at guys like Johansson and Aman. I think the two defensemen listed above would be great targets. In the draft I want to see the Canucks take a North American guy committed to college. Getting a guy like Will Smith would be an outstanding pickup as would Reinbacher. Through free agency I want to see the Canucks lock up Ethan Bear as their guy on the backend. Cal Foote would be an easy offer sheet and Ryan Graves would be the big free agent signing. A guy who defends with his feet and body extremely well. Nothing much needs to change up on forward except improving the fourth line and adding penalty killers. Any combination of Motte, Hathaway, Acciari, Fast, Foligno, Jankowski, or Nosek would be ideal.

VAN
  1. Fabbro, Dante [RFA Rights]
  2. Kulonummi, Kasper [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Nashville currently sits 5 pts out of the second wild card spot with games in hand on both Minnesota and Calgary. Adding Boeser would give them an offensive boost to a team that hasn't scored that much this season.
NSH
  1. Boeser, Brock ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Fabbro is a guy that I could see the Canucks targeting, whether it's for Boeser or a guy like Hoglander. Kulonummi is a mobile, offensive minded right shot defender that would be a good target for the Canucks with a very European pipeline.

    Future Considerations

After Myers' bonus is paid, his base salary is only $1million. This is a must for the Canucks in reshaping their D-core, and dumping Myers with a decent prospect like Lockwood would be a good move. Lockwood brings grit and toughness to a pretty soft Ducks team and Myers can't be any worse than Klingberg or Shattenkirk.
    ANA
    1. Lockwood, William [RFA Rights]
    2. Myers, Tyler
    Additional Details:
Cap space for the Canucks, addition by subtraction.
    3.
    VAN
    1. Beecher, John
    2. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
    Additional Details:
Schenn would be a great depth add for the B's or the Flames at the deadline. A cheap, physical, top six defender that leads the league in hits. He fits into the identity of the Bruins quite well. I could see the Canucks targeting a young prospect like Beecher who could help out in Abby and maybe crack the lineup one day. Lets be honest, he's nothing special.

The buyout on OEL works next season but then his cap hit goes up considerable every year after that Especially when he had two years at 4.76m

I guess i just don’t see how this team contends for anything. Blue line is a smidge better, but still bad. Basically the same forward group, minus horvat and adding raty. This team still looks bad.

The Canucks biggest issue is their special teams and defense. I want to know how many 1+ goal games the Canucks have lost when giving up 2-3 goals on the PK and on special teams. It has to be at least 10. Just look at the beginning of the year when they were up in every game but lost by a single goal or two. More than anything, this team is back on the right track, younger, and much deeper with prospects.

The Canucks can't afford to buy out OEL
