Description
Aquaman drops the fascade and demands the GM to run a lean roster near the floor, ideally paying less in real money.
From now on, money is the #1 priority - and that means trying to hang around the bubble to get those playoff revenues even if it doesn't make sense.
Goal: Drop the long term hits, and set the team up for an offseason where they can build a cheap team that can play for the 7th or 8th playoff spot in the west next year costing <$70M cap and <$65M real money if possible.
Obviously this is just a fun experiment. The timeline is sometime between now (deadline) and the start of next year. I'll note when the individual trades might take place.

OEL: 10.5Mil. Has to go. JT: Big contract, big bonus, has to go. Poolman: Backloaded deal needs to go Garland: Rumours of a buyout and backloaded deal. Needs to go Demko: 7 mil next year - needs to go. Myers: 5mil bonus - should go if possible.

Petey's contract is backloaded and he will bring in a dragon haul. He could be a useful piece to move.
Hughes hasn't hit the most expensive part of his deal and has term. He can stay - for now.
Pearson and Ferland - assuming both are done will be mostly paid by insurance - and so they can stay on IR pretending to be real cap hits.

In terms of call ups, reading Wheeler's updated rankings tells me that there isn't much on the way that we could expect higher in the lineup right now. Maybe 'rush' a guy to play depth minutes if needed, but otherwise its whatever we have at the NHL is what you get

In order to dump guys, we will need to """""""intelligently""""""" sell picks to entice teams without depleting our already thin cupboards for the near term
I'm going to just assume everyone who isn't done playing hockey gets healthy because that just makes my life easier

I won't lie, its a tough sell for a lot of these trades. Even finding a single fit is hard in many cases so please feel free to help me figure out potential fits with costs that actually make sense for VAN to spend.
Further to that, OEL's NTC was only waived for BOS or VAN. Might that have changed since?

Miller idea: Bailey is a contract they'd want to lose - and is cheap in real dollars. Miller fits this year and with the rest of the cores timeline + we know they're going for it. Moreover they will get their 1st back from the Bo trade giving them significant coverage for even a worst case scenario. This is a deadline trade.

OEL + Demko Idea: Going to pretend his NMC is more open since it hasn't gone well in VAN. LA is in need of LHD and has been rumoured as being in on Demko. They also have bad contracts they'd probably like to move. This will be a trade made after the signing bonus has been paid on Petersen (and Demko). Between the multitude of players at different value points (all of them weird) this is basically impossible to get a handle on who is owing who value. OEL doesn't have any more SB's and so can be retained at lower value cost for cash conscious teams like us (lmao).

Myers idea: Don't want to pay SB's, Myers gets moved to a cash rich rebuilding team looking to stock their cupboards before the draft.

Garland idea: Given how much we are already moving, and the cap being stagnant with no end in sight (thanks US TV deal collapse) It makes the most sense to just buy Garland out

Schenn Idea: Since he will be cheap - and apparently is very good and well liked, we keep Schenn in our vain hope of competing for a playoff spot next year.

Poolman Idea: Standard Dump - similar to Myers - done at or after draft

Petey idea: The belle of the ball. Every team and their mother would line up if we made him available. And since we are so cash conscious and need young players soon, we go for a quantity over quality return for him. So you're losing the trade quite badly. yay.... Done at the draft table

Boeser stays, because its funny if he of all people sticks around given the constant trade rumours

I eagerly await all the rage this will cause from everyone mad about everything :)

Trading Pettersen wouldn't make sense, I'm sure he's selling a lot of tickets and merchandise. Without him, there would only be Hughes who people will want to watch but ultimately they probably lose revenue.

If LA did this deal they would most likely be out on the significant free agents in 2 summers. Pass on OEL.

Ehh, I'm not certain Canadian hockey markets really work like that. Remember that this is just a set up for the off season to build into a fringe playoff team. If they're able to do that, fans will show. Besides, Bedard/Fantili will be a huge draw

I mean in 2 summers I don't think UFA is the real concern there

They should have been much more than a fringe playoff team with the rosters they have had over the past few seasons, yet they were always on the outside. I wouldn't be so hopeful that this roster actual turns out to be a fringe playoff team.

Oh not this roster. This is the cheap set up.

And Uhh, that's also kind of the point lol.

Also, I edited the 1st comment but you were too quick. Bedard/fantili will be big draws
