Description

So last night, Joel Armia singlehandedly drove a dagger through our lottery odds by having us flip places with Arizona, as the Canadiens now have the 6th best odds (and currently the 6th pick overall).

Arizona has a few centres already in their system, so since Smith and Benson should both be available when they and Montreal are picking, could Montreal give up a pick to get their guy? How much would it cost?

Smith has said he loves Kent Hughes--his former coach--is a friend of his son Jack, went to Boston College (where Hughes went to school). Smith fills a void for Montreal, and while Benson would be a great addition, Smith is already becoming quite popular among the Canadiens fanbase.

We took two big risks last year by drafting fast-rising Slovaks with our first round picks, all I'm asking for is a top-line potential, almost sure-thing, doesn't-need-to-adapt-to-North-America player when we're picking in the top 6.

Slafkovsky will start the year in Laval.

Edmundson, Dvorak, and potentially (but less likely) Matheson could be on their way out.

A rookie 4th line could be interesting.

I personally think Arizona should accept this. I think they draft Reinbacher with their first pick anyways.

Why would Montreal trade up only one spot? If they both want the same prospect, why would Arizona accept this?

If you think Arizona is taking someone other than Smith, why bother moving up? We literally pick right after them so the risk of us losing our guy is minimal, if they do take Smith then we simply draft Reinbacher and make some kind of move for PLD.

I don't see this trade working for a #5. The draft is top 4 heavy, and 5 onwards aren't so obvious.
