Description
Needs: everything
Surplus: prospects. However Ducks are rebuilding so I don't think they trade prospects or picks except for a young nhl ready players (like Mtl did at the draft with Dach).
They have the best odds to land Bedard and the facts they fired Eakins means that starting next season they should start to acquire important players to surround Bedard and Zegras. Also they have important D prospects but it's important they don't rush them, so they will sign veteran on short terms except Severson who I think is exactly the type of defensive guys they need.

Trades
ANA
  1. Granlund, Mikael
  2. Poulin, Samuel
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Granlund wasn't the answer at Pittsburgh. The new gm will try to ship him. To accept they will need to send a good prospect and maybe even a second pick.
PIT
  1. Gibson, John ($1,400,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Gibson is from Pittsburgh and is still a good goalie, but on a bad team. Pens will try to return to playoffs while still having Crosby, Malkin and Letang.

Pat Verbeek said that John Gibson isn't available, And Gibson pretty much said he's not waiving. And that doesn't even come close to getting Gibson out of Anaheim with $1,400,000 retained.

Then the Pens can sign Freddy Andersen and try to roll the clock back, we don't need to ship Gibson out of town with 5.6 million in retention for a cap dump, a LHD we don't have room for, and the 2nd doesn't even cover the retention.

If we are a bad team, why is Andersen going to sign here as a free agent? He's older than Gibson and much more injury prone, he can't handle the workload here.

Contracts are off across the board, Terry and Zegras will both be between 7-8 AAV for 7-8 years. Severson is a fine get but I think is the third option for RHD after Dumba and Mayfield. Dumolin is a bad signing for us.

You're right about Granlund up to a point. His trade value is negative, particularly in light of the fact that he's got TWO more seasons left, and he'll probably take a future second to unload. But Poulin may not be NHL material, and doesn't really add much value to that package. Where you go off the rails is the return that combination might get you -- maybe a bottom-6 roster forward, more likely a B prospect or sixth-round draft pick. Max Pacioretty, who had been productive up to the point of his trade to Carolina, went with a similar prospect for Future Considerations.
