Description
Hawks don't win the lottery and miss out on Bedard. Their top pick doesn't play in NHL next season so is irrelevant to this team.

Did not resign C. Jones or Mitchell. Time to move on from those two. This team gives some of the young D in Rockford their opportunity for meaningful NHL ice time.

Trades w/ Isles and Kings both made pre-draft. Hawks absorb Peterson's full contract, including the signing bonus. Not a deal breaker for Hawks in my opinion. Sent RFA rights for Mitchell and Jones out. Either trade could just as easily be for future considerations or a different RFA Hawks don't sign. Hawks still have signing rights to Artur Kayumov that could be used in either of these trades as well.

Don't get too caught up in the line combinations. This is just one option. Could see T. Johnson on 1RW, Kurashev on 2LW and Bailey on 3rd line just as easily. Dickinson and Guttman could also wind up flip flopped. I've admittedly never been a Bjork fan, but he wasn't bad in the few games he played at the end of the season. So I gave him a new deal instead of resigning AA. It's a toss up. Hawks could resign Anthanasou instead and let Bjork walk. AA's exit interview comments seem to suggest he wants a multi year deal. I'm not on board with that.

Because it is not even close to what it will take to move 11 million in salary and 5 a year for 2 years of cap and that is without Jones being added as some sort of throw away. This is terrible value for the Hawks

$9 million in salary and $5 million, $1 million and $2 million in cap. Just so we have the figures right.

While the Hawks could buy him out, I would think they just let Petersen play and he can be co tank leader with Mrazek for a year and then lead the suck by himself in that 2nd year. I don't see much reason for the Hawks to buy him out and prolong the cap into a 3rd year.
