Why MTL might want Mantha:
- He is younger than Hoffman, which means he could potentially have a future with MTL beyond next season if it works out and he is resigned. A change of scenery might do him some good.
- He has a definite size advantage, which could compliment Suzuki and Caufield better than Hoffman.
- He's from Quebec so that's also a bonus, nice to have local players.
Why Washington might want Hoffman:
- He outproduced Mantha last year, the past 3 years, and for their entire careers. By all accounts Hoffman is a more productive player, so he should be an upgrade for a Washington team that will look to stay competitive while they have Ovechkin.
- He has a better contract, saving Washington $1.2M that they could invest elsewhere.
Why both teams consider this trade:
- I believe they are ready to move on from these players. It's a mutual exchange to give players a change of scenery.

On the Norlinder trade, just looking to give him a fresh start somewhere else. He is going to get lost in MTL's system with all the defence prospects and Laval could use a right hand shot on forward. Both players were drafted very close to each other and could use a change of scenery, so another mutual swap.
