Is the Jets trade fair?

It's clear they need to blow up the core. Hellebuyck and Dillon both only have 1 year left on their contracts, so their value would be slightly lower than normal. Hellebuyck can simply walk after the end of the year anyway, so it would be smart for the Jets to trade him now and get three high-round picks.

It can be viewed as:

2023 1st (14th overall) and 2024 1st for Hellebuyck
2025 2nd for Dillon

Rutta for 2024 5th

Penguins get a top 7 goalie in the league and a good defensive top 4 d-man while running back a relatively same forward group.

Make run more run at a cup. This trade allows them to do it.

I don't see it like that at all.

They have no leverage at all. Both Hellebuyck and Dillon are 1 year away from being UFAs and Hellebuyck has publicly stated he doesn't want to go through a rebuild. They're getting a top 15 pick in a strong draft, another 1st that's unprotected, and another 2nd that could be in the 40's range if the Pens really fall off by 2025 (which they probably will).
