Description
The ducks have some decisions to make. They could play a lot of the kids with the big club next season. Fantilli straight to the NHL and then Minty, Zellweger, LaCombe and even Hinds could all get some decent NHL time too.

Or they could play all the kids in SD make a significant push for a Calder cup. That would mean a bit of a tank at the NHL level tho.

Oddly enough, it takes either of our late seconds to get the corresponding first from the "parent" team:

Boston 1st (#28, owned by Toronto) = Boston 2nd (#60) plus our second (#33)
Colorado 1st (#27) = Colorado second (#59) plus our second (#33)

If Carolina loses to New Jersey, the Colorado picks become #26 and #58 and our second doesn't quite do it.

Is it worth it for us to give up a late second to move up 5 or 6 places? Only if we have someone specific in mind there.

I'd much rather move up in the second round: the Boston and Colorado seconds could get us one of Detroit's three successive seconds at the beginning of the round (probably #43).

I'm pretty happy with everything else here.

I think sending all the kids to SD for a year and a shot at the Calder is good, build some comraderie, resign Stolarz for a year so Dostal can go back too, it'll be the only hardware they are hoisting for a while. Maybe this will spark some drive in a couple of the guys that seem stalled out down there (Tracey, Perrault, etc)

Problem in Anaheim is that our forward core is a bit ahead of our defensive core, so we really need to make sure they meet or beat development expectations over the next two seasons. As for the guys already on the big team, just going to have to tread water for a bit, work on their own things, Zegras needs to stay out of the damned box, all the young centers need to work on faceoffs, the team as a whole needs to be better defensively.

Winning will fix some of Zegras’ faults. I mean I could be wrong but I doubt he’s ever been on a bad team. Frustration and immaturity is all that is. He’ll grow from that.

Face offs are a bit overrated. Don’t have to be dominant on the dot. Sure it’s not a bad thing to be good at but not the end all be all.

The coach will fix some of the serious defensive issues. Eakins system was just awful.

But overall yea the Dcore needs to catch up to the forward group. Outside of Zellweger Minty and maybe Luneau I wouldn’t be opposed to trading them now if the right guy is available

I figured but I didn’t know the exact draft value chart. Either way I don’t think they make all 4 picks in the first 2 rounds.

It won't likely be the Avs. They won't give up that pick easily.
