No to literally every move
Every trade
Every signing
Every line
Every pairing
The goalie tandem
It's just awful, the first thing I thought was "well, if that's our build, we better lottery protect that 24 first".
Couple specific things-
The Sabres have puck movers, the guys that were drafted first overall, their pp is just fine, and the coach runs out 4 forwards and just one d, again one of those first overall picks. We desperately need defensive d, and I'm gonna say they need to be physical, because we get owned in the corners and in front. And in this op, we get tyson barrie, an offensive defenseman that doesn't provide a single thing that we need.
The Sabres, again, struggled in their own zone. A lot of thar falls on the centers. We have Thompson and cozens as our #1 and #2, both are quite capable offensively, neither are pulling their weight defensively (although I expect cozens to get better). The team could use a good two way center (no Casey, not you), to help with d zone starts, the awful pk, and winning the odd faceoff. Here we trade for the ghost of Blake Wheeler, for the life of me, I have no idea why.
In goal its likely going to be Levi and either upl or an upgrade vet, depending obviously on cost. Goalies dont get firsts, let's start with that idea being in stone, and if it's a top 5 goalie with a fantastic contract, maybe we circle back to that, otherwise- no.
Bryson is awful, I wanted to see him get a chance, he did, he failed.
Debrincat isn't a need, plus we already have Skinner as a 9 million dollar one dimensional winger, we don't need two, plus there's a salary cap. Those assets would be much better utilized to get a right shot d to pair with power, either severson in ufa or using some of our excellent young prospects to fill it by trade. That basically leaves our third pair as stillman and Lyubushkin, probably should upgrade one of those, same idea, somebody to make our zone a less comfortable place for opposing forwards to play.
