The Pens traded Fehr so they wouldn't have his contract, not to get it back. Besides, that's too much for Maata and Rowney. The Leafs were looking at Maata, but there hasn't been any talk since and I'm not sure they're looking to move Bozak immediately. The feeling is that they'll move JVR for defensive help, or maybe nothing at all. The Leafs have a pretty solid roster except for d, and the word is they're looking for someone short team who can play on the right-hand side, like Polak as you have signed or possibly Franson, as Management has reached out to him. They have Sparks in the system for coming years and Woll as possibly their future starter, so we don't need much help in net unless Mac craps the bed, but I think they'd look for cheaper options before they make a trade like that. Also, not sure you're even getting Pickard for scraps. Lindberg could be good, but it's not looking hopeful right now. Possibly a third liner in a few years?

Edit: That also doesn't look like a deal that will work for Carolina, aside from not being what they're targeting. Carolina wants scorers and may part ways with their D for it, and Toronto wants defence and are willing to part ways with their forwards. Any trades I see happening with JVR involve possibly Anaheim or Carolina, and the targets would either be Vatanen or Pesce in larger package deals to equal out value, but with the acquisition of Liljegren, it's completely uncertain if the Leafs are still looking for a young RHD rather than a short term vet, as I said above

Maattaa isn't really needed by the Leafs. The Leafs have plenty at LHD. And Bozak is needed this season. Lindholm is good and cheap just what they and, not a one and done JVR. Forget these crazy trades, where I guy signs and extension. Pickard may be nice, but he even at the age of 25 is still kinda of a prospect. Leafs are going with a veteran back up and there Mac has proven he is good.
Vegas needs forwards and Eakin is a proven NHLer. Rychel is an AHLer, no more.
