Description
Personally speaking, I see very few ways to make this happen, simply due to cap space.

DeBrincat is a great player no doubt, but he's not exactly a huge fit to fix our biggest weakness, that being our mid defense. It's way too reliant on Miro, who has to carry a bunch of scrubs. Acquiring DeBrincat will only make fixing our defense that much tougher.

That all being said, rumors are that DeBrincat would like to sign long-term with Dallas. So if we were to make a trade happen, what would it look like then? Well, for starters, some money would no doubt have to go Ottawa's way. Marchment and Faksa are probably the most expendable guys for Dallas to give out, and they would provide Ottawa decent options for mid-6/bottom-6 roles respectively. DAL would also have to give out a very good prospect, and a pick I wager.

As much as I'd like to keep Stankoven around, prime DeBrincat is basically the ceiling of what Stankoven is expected to reach as a small sniper-like guy.

As for Cats new contract, I think Kyrou deal set a decent precedent for it. 8 years, $65M bucks. Could be a bit more, if necessary, but since DAL has the tax advantage going their way, the total money would end up being higher in Dallas regardless. What a nice little perk to have...

Some hopeful UFA offers, (all on the low side), and no cap space with just 19 skaters spells trouble.

As much as they are still important players, one of Benn or Seguin probably need to go in some shape, without creating a huge hole or too many years of retention.....

Saw an interesting proposal the other day....Seguin with 9.5mil for 4 more yrs and a mid round pick to PHI for Hayes at 7.1mil for 3 yrs. (seguin is just marginally older, but 1 more yr at 2.4mil more for similar production) or Seguin with 33% retention and a high round pick to PHI or CBS.

I dunno about hopeful, they're pretty market value offers. And DAL ran a 21-man roster the whole year last year.

I'm down for the Seguin-Hayes swap, but his NMC will pose a problem. Trading him anywhere is going to be hard, as I don't really see him willing to waive. Suppose same applies to Benn as well.

While it's a very decent package, it isn't the kind of return OTT is looking for.
It's too much cap coming back to us without a replacement for DeBrincat OR a first round pick.
We either need a top 6 winger, or to free up the cap space to get one while acquiring futures.

Imo Stank is first round pick equivalent. I'd imagine DAL gladly gives you a 2024 or 2025 1st instead of Stank if necessary.

If the cap is an issue, perhaps the teams could find a third team to retain some salary, similar to what LA did in the Provy trade.
