Description
Wings weaponize cap space and excess picks:

Pens Trade:
Pens have a weak prospect pool and no cap space. Seems like they may be willing to trade out of the 1st for multiple 2nds, a LD prospect, and over 9M in cap relief. Wings take on cap space to get 14OA

Philly Trade: Wings need scoring, Flyers need to rebuild. High picks and a young player for a position of need for Detroit. TK fits the timeline and could be a part of the core moving forward.

Sens trade: DeBrincat seems destined to leave Ottawa. Sens want middle 6 forwards so Detroit gives them Fabbri along with 14OA and a 2nd. Detroit gets a needed scorer.

Free Agents:
Andersen: the only notable signing. Gives Detroit a sold backup/1B to pair with Husso.

Hagg and Chiasson: any cheap vets who can be healthy scratches and fill in when needed.

What about re-signing Seider, Raymond, Rasmussen, and Berggren next year?
This still gives Detroit 4.8M in cap space for this season.
Coming off the books next summer are:
Carter: 3.125M
Perron: 4.75M
Kubalik: 2.5M

That leaves over 15M in cap space, not including the cap increase and the possibility of trading Petry with retention.

If we can come out with TK and DeBrincat (probably would remove Fabbri and add Hanas) AND 9OA? goodness gracious.

I can't see Carter waiving, I don't think he wants to move his family again.
Assuming he does, I still think the Pens decline. Dubas has expressed interest in keeping the 14OA unless the Pens can get a young contributor for it. Even still, Petry's departure would leave a hole at RD2 that can't easily be filled, and Dubas has also claimed that he doesn't anticipate any big UFA signings. So that means probably no Mayfield or Dumba, the two guys who come closest to fitting that hole. The Pens have a lot of cap space anyway. They don't necessarily need to clear space (yet, at least).
The Pens open a big hole in their lineup and the best pick they've had in a decade for a couple seconds and an ECHL defenseman. No thanks.

Would have to be a prospect, not a zilch like Sebrango, or whatever his name is that’ll never be heard from again, lol.
