Description
Or at least, trading any valuable assets away for him this off-season. And also why we won't be trading John Gibson away. Gibson's remaining four-season term is extremely valuable to the Ducks because it's a bridge to Anaheim's opening window of contention.

The term on Zegras, Terry, Drysdale, Dostal and Carlsson looks funny because they will be signed this summer and this ACGM is for 2024-2025.

Even after signing William Nylander as a free agent, the RW position behind the top two is still weak, and since Ryan Strome is better at center than on the wing, moving him over won't help.

A couple of high-quality free-agent signings to fill the holes shown and this could be a playoff-contending team. (Imagine where we'd be if we had been able to sign Dimitry Orlov or Ryan Graves this month.)

It sure would be stupid if we had traded away our starting goaltender for a mess of pottage in 2023.

Prospects for whom we have high hopes are shown on the Taxi Squad just for purposes of inclusion.

Agreed overall, but Zegras should be the winger, not McT. I also think its safe to say Zell, Helleson, and Gaucher will be in the lineup by this time.

How many years in the A do you think Gaucher takes? I feel like he could crack the line up in 24-25 if there is room for him on the 4th line

There’s a wide range of opinions in Leafs nation (comes with the territory); Nylander to the Ducks never made sense to most of us.
I would, and pretty sure Tre feels the same, not trade but keep nylander and continue negotiations throughout year. He is an elite scoring winger, game breaker, in his prime - no way we can win any trade and Leafs window to win is firmly open now.

In the same vein, I don't think it makes any sense for the Leafs to entertain the idea of trading Nylander.
Nylander is a star winger on the last year of a steal of an AAV, no contending team will be parting with a similar level player (I'm not sure there is one available tbh).
And given where the Leafs are in their cup contention window it makes zero sense for them to trade Nylander for a futures package or a mix of cap space, roster players and futures as it'd just take them further away from a cup than closer to it.

Nylander is almost certainly gonna be a leaf from now until the end of the 23-24 season. Will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Nylander once the season is done however.
