Kinda Tempted in theory
But reality is Hughes and Gorton are Size Queens.
The odds of them downgrading size on a PP Player for another PP Player who are both top 4 Guys is unlikely.
I mean you throw in Lavoie maybe as he'd fit out system as Armia's replacement
But you'd have to do a Mailloux and Ylonen for Lavoie and Bouchard deal selling the French Community on it
Even then Hughes and Gorton has a history of ignoring the fans and insisting their ways the right one .
Whats fair and What Realistic are sadly miles apart
Miles apart? Thinking one way or another doesnt make an idea outlandish in thought/theory. Its simply an idea you oppose. Dont see the need for a Ylonen/Lavoie swap, its quite inconsequential. Ylonen is a fringe NHL player and Lavoie has a chance to be a top9 player but it's hopeful at best. Still sure okay, they can do that but the French thing is always overrated. Besides trading for Drouin. They havent really gone for a legitimate French player in trade since Turgeon in the mid 90s.
Bouchard isnt small. I dont see your point. Mailloux has potential but isnt a sure thing nor is Hutson, Reinbacher, etc. The whole idea for Montreal is to use their prospect capital to upgrade talent during their window. Evan Bouchard isnt old either. This is exactly the kind of bet they have been making on players like Dach, Newhook to be core playes.
Edmonton wont have the cap. Montreal will have the cap as both teams are built differently.
Montreal can overpay the Nylanders, Bouchards, teams like Oilers and Leafs are superstar heavy thus will have to purge even with the cap increase. The Oilers will need to make low cost bets much like Dubas has had to do in Toronto. The Nurse/Campbell/Nuge contracts are immovable and they'll need to work aound the edges which unfortunately will mean players like Kane, Bouchard and an older Ekholm (unless at a discount) will need to go!
