I think both teams decline. CGY will want a package with a 1st or equivalent prospect in it.

NSH has enough LD already. Re-signing Hanifin would use up too much cap space that could be put to better use elsewhere (like at center or RD).

It pushes us right back to where we were with Ekholm on the team with too many expensive LHD. so we either justify it by putting Josi offhand with McDonagh again.... or we bury a 6 million dollar dman on the third pairing.

The 2nd tilts it towards an overpay. That's getting close to what NSH got for Ekholm. Hanifin isn't quite as good, and is only a rental.
